Curiosity Strikes
Raise your hand if you got a "push present" or "baby bling", which is the term I prefer. I don't care if it cost five dollars or five thousand dollars. I want to know if your husband gave you a present after you became a mother. And sure, the baby is joy enough. But we're talking material here, people. Madonna told it like it is- we're all a little bit material some days. You know it, and I know it.
Here are the requirements to "count":
1) it can't be something that you bought for yourself and then said was from him.
2) it can't be something that the two of you were going to buy anyway. (like my husband likes to say he bought me a house. Sorry charlie, doesn't count.)
I'm talking about your husband, in the few quiet seconds you had after your little miracle arrived, sitting you down and handing you something that he thoughtfully chose to thank you for gaining 30 plus pounds, throwing up around the clock, sacrificing what you ate and drank for 9 months, sacrificing how you slept for 9 months, inevitably being the designated driver for 9 months, and then going through 30 hours of labor, which most likely included the worst pain you've ever experienced (and that we all know he could never handle). It's been 14 months to the day for me- I think it's safe to say, it aint happenin.
Again- if you've been reading my blog for longer than a day, you know that I was over the moon thrilled to do all those things. And I have no doubts that you were too. And of course it's all worth it. It's no secret that I love my husband and my baby girl more than life itself. This isn't meant to be "rip on your husband day." But I'm just curious if he put a ring on it (or a necklace, or a teddy bear... whatever the case may be.)
Enlighten me, will you?

Going to Grandma's!
Jason and I went to LA last weekend for our friends' wedding, meaning Marin got to spend a few days with Grandma and Grandpa. And these days, since we live upstairs, there wasn't any traffic on the way over!
sorts of developments Marin accomplished while we were gone. She pulls herself up so well now, and has discovered how to climb up and down the
steps! When did she get to be such a big girl?! Although we missed Marin terribly, and hated that we didn't get to visit with Brooke (we'll celebrate with Grandma later), we had a
great time first visiting with friends in LA, and participating in our friends' beautiful wedding weekend in Beverly Hills. It was the first time in a long time where we knew both the bride and the groom equally well, for exactly the same length of time, (Ross and Emilie were our neighbors in the city), and we laughed that we didn't know on which side of the aisle to sit. We have gotten to know both Ross and Emilie's families well, so we enjoyed seeing them and made some new
friends to boot! And, a picture of Ross and Emilie holding Marin on the day that she came home from the hospital even made the slide show!
When I caught Jason belting out "wild rice and turkey sandwiches" in the place of the real lyrics
to "I got a feelin'" by the Black Eyed Peas at the reception, I enjoyed busting his chops a little bit. As it continued through out the night, ("Burgers on the grill and I liked it" to Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl") and he confessed that he does this sort of thing all the time, I laughed so hard and realized quickly, that if I were a single girl at the wedding, I would have still wished for him to ask me to dance more than anyone else there.
Hooray for Grandparents! Hooray for lifelong friends!

Jas Jokes = Dad Jokes
Molly and I have always classified his jokes as "Jas Jokes" as a way to define what is so uniquely something Jas would say to make you laugh. However, my friend Jane recently confessed that she and our friend Adam say that one reason they believe Jason will be a great dad, is that all of his jokes are dad jokes. I loved it!
Jane's favorite example of this is a story I shared with her from a time that Jason and I were on vacation at the beach. We were walking along, and we passed a little girl whose parents were just a few steps behind her. She was stopped on the beach looking down, and as we passed her she looked at us and proudly identified for us, "That's a jellyfish!!" I smiled at her and said, "That's right!" But Jas, ever the quick thinking witty one said to her, "If that's a jellyfish, then where is the peanut butter fish?!" She thought about it for a split second and then burst into laughter all the time looking at Jas with the most adoring eyes like he was the funniest person she'd ever met. "There's no peanut butter fish!" she giggled.
Last weekend Jason and I asked my brother, Jake, for do us a huge favor and drop our dog off at the kennel. We had to leave to be out of town before the kennel opened, so Jake dropped off his "niece" (his words) for us. To thank him, Jason bought him a 6 pack of Heineken. We left it out on the counter with Norah's leash and food to be taken to the kennel with her. I left a
I've said before that Jason will be a great dad. I have absolutely no doubt about this. Perhaps it is that he is a bit of a child himself some days, but most likely its just because he is so fun and loves to joke with people and make them laugh. Whatever you want to call them-Jas jokes or Dad jokes- Jason is sure to have this baby (and occasionally its mommy) giggling through its childhood.
